KARACHI, March 18: The President of Karachi Press Club, Sabihuddin Ghousi, on Monday conferred the life membership of KPC on Abid Hassan Minto advocate in recognition of his services to the cause of workers in general and for workers of the newspaper industry in particular.

Minto flew from Lahore to attend the ceremony which was also attended by senior journalists, trade unionists, lawyers and workers of the newspaper industry.

The speakers paid glowing tribute to Minto for his dedication and conviction to the cause of the oppressed classes of the society and his continued struggle for their rights.

Speaking on the occasion, Abid Hassan Minto affirmed his pledge to continue to serve the oppressed classes of the society and extend his cooperation to the workers of the country at whatever forum they needed him.

He said except few, majority of the lawyers belonged to the middle class and they should help each other to change the social values by focusing on the issues instead of promoting the cause of the exploiters by highlighting the non-issues.

He elaborated how the main political parties ignored the main issues of the masses and failed to express their plans and ideological and political strategy for the future of this country.

He said he and his political party was labelled as leftwing party while he stood for the cause of the oppressed classes and talking about a step beyond the ordinary democracy, which had favoured so far, the feudals and the rich.

Without indulging in the debate of right or left, he said, he was working for the welfare of the oppressed classes.—APP
