JOHANNESBURG, Sept 21: Former England Test opener and expert Geoff Boycott has questioned the leadership of Paul Collingwood after England’s miserable World Twenty20 campaign in South Africa ended at the Super Eight stage.

England won just one game, that too against Zimbabwe, before going down to four successive defeats and Boycott questioned the wisdom of appointing Collingwood as one-day skipper.

In his column in the Daily Telegraph, Boycott said: “After this showing, I am yet to be convinced that [coach Peter] Moores and Collingwood are getting to grips with their jobs.

”Collingwood doesn’t give me the impression that he is a natural leader. He made a number of mistakes during the tournament, most obviously when he forgot to give [Andrew] Flintoff his full allocation of overs against South Africa.”

”If Collingwood can’t handle that, he should pack the captaincy in. He certainly needs to buck his ideas up if he is to challenge Michael Vaughan’s hold on the Test job.” —Agencies
