RAWALPINDI, Sept 21: An O-level student of a private school was booked by the Civil Lines police on charges of taking away a government car parked outside a university in the cantonment area on Friday, police said.

The boy was stopped near the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) along with the car and handed over to the local police.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Civil Lines revealed that a school boy identified as Raja Mannan was going towards his house when he saw an abandoned car whose engine was switched on.

The boy opened the door and drove away with the car. On seeing the car being taken away, its driver appeared on the scene and informed his officer. Later the Military Police and local police were informed who started a search for the car and finally intercepted it near CMH.

The boy, aged 15, was apprehended and handed over to the local police who registered a robbery case against him and started investigation.

The ASP said preliminary investigation suggested that the boy had done it out of fear of his friends who, he claimed, were following him and he was trying to avoid them. On seeing the car, he opened the door and took it away.
