WATER: Farmers Organizations’ Council chairman Javed Ahmed Junejo has said that following protest by the council and the growers, the irrigation authorities have increased water flow at the head of the Nara Canal from 8,000 cusecs to 13,000 cusec.

He criticized the irrigation authorities for earlier victimisation of the farmers and said that without any intimation, 30 distributaries were denied water which caused heavy losses to the growers as they had applied fertilizers to crops and they needed fresh watering.

Mr Junejo said that a seven-member committee -- comprising himself, Ayoub Wassan, Haji Mahi Khan, Shah Nawaz Junejo, Mir Ali Nawaz Talpur, Murtaza Shah and Saleem Malkani -- had been constituted to compile complaints of corruption in funds allocated for watercourse improvement and collect proofs, which would be submitted to the NAB and the Anti Corruption Establishment.
