Three gunned down

SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 20: Unidentified assailants shot dead three people apparently over rivalry in Shamnagar locality, some 60km away from here, in Sharaqpur police station on Thursday.

Tufail, Naseem and Jamil were returning to their home after doing a routine work in their fields. The assailants ambushed them near a nullah bridge in the village’s vicinity, shot at them and fled. All the three men died instantly.

Police rushed to the scene and started investigation.

Initial reports suggested that the murder was an outcome of rivalry.

ARRESTED: Bhikhi police claimed on Thursday to have arrested six robbers and recovered snatched cash and valuables worth thousands of rupees from their possession.

On information that 11 robbers were mugging locals in Pulrwan village, a police party reached there and captured six of them, while their accomplices fled.

Rallies: The International Peace Day will be observed here on Friday (today) and rallies and meetings will be held to mark the day.

In this connection, a special programme will be held at the District Council Hall where Bryan D Hunt, the principal officer at United States consulate in Lahore, will be the guest of honour. He will also deliver a special lecture on peace.
