RAWALPINDI, Sept 19: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) here on Wednesday remanded two seminary students in police custody for one day for their alleged involvement in the killing of a Rangers man during the Lal Masjid operation.

The Aabpara police produced Abdul Qayyum and Mohammad Sadiq before the ATC judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot after the normal court timings claiming that they were arrested on the night of September 18.

The SHO of Aabpara, Abdul Rasheed sought their physical custody for seven days saying that they wanted to investigate the accused and recover the weapons used in the killing of the Rangers man on July 3.

Meanwhile, the judge deferred the hearing of the bail application of a British national of Pakistani origin till September 22 as his counsel was not present in the court.

Police produced Rashid Rauf, 26, in the court after his detention orders ended on August 28 and the prosecution failed to obtain an extension from the Federal Review Board.

Rauf was arrested in August 2006 for his alleged links with a plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights. In December 2006, he was acquitted of the terror charges by an anti-terrorism court but the Punjab government through the Lahore High Court sought his retrial.

There has been no progress in the case for the last nine months.
