HYDERABAD, Oct 21: Around 60 activists of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club here on Sunday against the arrest of the provincial Ameer of the party, Asadullah Bhutto, and other leaders and workers and ban on the entry of Qazi Hussain Ahmed into Sindh.
Speaking at the rally, the acting provincial chief of the JI Mumtaz Sehto said that the arrest of a large number of party leaders and workers in Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Jacobabad and Larkana reflected weakness of the government.
He said that these arrests could not break the spirit of JI workers and vowed to besiege the Jacobabad airport on Tuesday at any cost.
The JI leader said the army had handed over half of Pakistan to India and now the other half to America.
He wondered why such a huge army was being maintained when it could not defend the country despite being a nuclear power.
The others who spoke on the occasion included Shaikh Shoukat Ali, Abdul Waheed Qureshi, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Rao Masood Ali Khan and IJT leader Umer Farooq.
They demanded of the rulers to review their policy on Afghanistan.
They claimed that the JI was striving for peace but the rulers had adopted the path of violence.
They also lashed out at the PTV for inadequate coverage of Afghan war and for not using the word Shaheed for the martyrs of Afghanistan.
They said that under a US conspiracy India was committing aggression against Pakistan.
