LAHORE: PPP for defining terrorism

Published October 22, 2001

LAHORE, Oct 21: The Pakistan People’s Party demanded on Sunday that there is a clear difference between terrorism and freedom movements in various parts of the world and the distinction should be maintained by all concerned.

A resolution adopted at a meeting of the party’s district information secretaries from the Punjab said that terrorism should not be tagged with a particular faith or the movements going on in Kashmir, Palestine, Bosnia and elsewhere would be seen in the same light and this would not a positive development.

Provincial Information Secretary Naveed Chaudhry presided over the meeting which was participated in among others by acting secretary-general Reza Rabbani, provincial president Qasim Zia, deputy information secretary Altaf Qureshi.

The resolution said that Islam was a religion of peace and affection and it should not be linked with terrorism.

It said that the PPP was opposed to terrorism in all forms and manifestations both within the country or in any party of the world, and it was for this reason that reactionaries had always criticised the party for its just stand.

Another resolution demanded an immediate end to the ban on political activities. It said that the party believed in elections and it had not given up its demand for polls. The resolution said that the party was trying to save the country from Talibanisation and other prejudices.

Another resolution criticized the government for the latest raise in the electricity tariff and demanded that it should be withdrawn immediately.
