JUI leader’s murder slammed

Published September 17, 2007

LAHORE, Sept 16: Bishop of Raiwind Samuel Azariah has condemned the murder of Wafaqul Madaris Vice-President and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam leader Maulana Hassan Jan.

Condoling Jan’s death in a statement issued here on Sunday, the bishop said that maintenance of law and order and protection of people’s lives was one of the primary responsibilities of the state. He said those who targeted Jan in Ramazan neither believed in religion nor in human values. He said the growing lawlessness and incidents like Jan’s murder had exposed government claims regarding law and order. —Reporter
