SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 16: A petition has been moved to the Supreme Court (SC), asking it to take notice of “Rs50 million embezzlement” in the Upper Gogera Canal Division.
Petitioners Mian Liaqat and Muhammad Ameen Zahid, in an application sent to the SC chief justice, alleged that Divisional Executive Engineer Chaudhry Abdul Rashid, who has now been transferred to Gujranwala, embezzled Rs50 million from the funds in connivance with Accountant Sheikh Tahir and other officials.
They said Rashid made bogus payments in the name of annual repair of Narah Rajba at Chak 13 and Shafaqpur minors. They also said Rashid ‘rewarded’ his ‘favourite’ contractors in the Mianaali canal project.
They said Rashid and Tahir paid millions of rupees to Attaul Bhatti and Saifullah “without any justification”. They accused Rashid of always issuing tenders to his ‘favourite’ contractors and asked the chief justice to take action against both officials.
Talking to Dawn, Rashid said allegations against him were baseless.
