Maulana Jan’s murder widely condemned

SWABI, Sept 16: Leaders of various political parties condemned on Sunday the killing of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) leader and religious scholar Maulana Hassan Jan in Peshawar.

District Nazim Shahram Khan said he had no words to condemn the killing because Maulana Jan was a man who always provided Islamic guidelines on the sensitive issues on which other scholars kept quiet.

Liaqat Khan Tarakai, a leader of the PML-Q, said the murder of Maulana Hassan Jan was a great loss because the country needed such scholars and those who had killed him were enemies of the people.

He said the Maulana always preached love, fraternity and brotherhood among different schools of thought of Muslims and the killing of such a scholar was a great loss to the nation, especially Pukhtuns.

Hakim Ihsanul Haq, District General Secretary of the JUI-F, said that it would be difficult for the party leadership to find another man like him.

He said it was the responsibility of his followers to expose the persons who were behind this murder.

Javid Inqilabi, President of People’s Lawyers Forum, called upon the people to unite to foil killings of their leaders because such incidents had created a sense of insecurity among all sections of society.

He demanded of the government to expose and arrest killers of the religious leader.
