KARACHI : New currency notes for Eid

Published September 16, 2007

KARACHI, Sept 15: The field offices of the State Bank of Pakistan and branches of all the commercial banks across the country will issue one wad each of Rs10 and Rs20 denominations fresh currency notes to one person from their counters once during Ramazan.

According to an SBP statement on Saturday, the decision has been taken to facilitate the public and other stakeholders in obtaining fresh currency notes before Eid and also to discourage black marketing of fresh currency notes during Ramazan.

The SBP field offices have already started issuing these currency notes from Sept 15, while commercial banks’ branches will issue fresh currency notes from the 5th of Ramazan till the last working day before Eid on the production of original CNICs along with a copy of it for record.

Commercial banks will also issue one wad each of these currency notes during the above-mentioned period to their account holders on production of cheques.—APP
