IJT demo against Karachi killings

Published September 15, 2007

LAHORE, Sept 14: The Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT) on Friday staged a protest demonstration and blocked the Punjab University Campus canal bridge against killing of their five activists in Karachi University by MQM activists.

Holding banners and placards, the charged students chanted slogans against MQM leaders and the government.

Police baton-charged the protesters besides firing teargas shells. The IJT activists claimed the police action left six students severely injured, while several others were arrested.

PU IJT Nazim Muhammad Ayub demanded that the government should ban the MQM and register murder cases against MQM activists involved in the killings. He said the Supreme Court should take a suo motu notice and take killers to task.

Mr Ayub also condemned police action against PU students.
