Complaints against utility store

Published September 15, 2007

TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 14: After an announcement by the government that utility stores will give subsidy on several daily use items in Ramazan, the local utility store is facing a shortage of commodities.

People said they had to queue up for hours to get cheap foodstuff from the store, but when they reach the salesman they are told that subsidised items were out of stock. They said the store was selling subsidised items to shopkeepers instead of people. They said the store was depriving its customers of 10 to 15 per cent subsidy on several commodities.

The store is located at a place on Allama Iqbal Road where there is no space for customers to queue up or park their vehicles. Utility Stores Corporation Managing Director Brig Hafeez Ahmad (retired) recently visited Toba Tek Singh and ordered shifting of the store to a larger building, but his directive has yet to be complied with.

TRUCK SNATCHED: Robbers snatched from a driver his truck that was loaded with cloth and cotton yarn on Toba-Chichawatni Road on Thursday night.

The driver told Rajana police that he was carrying on his truck cloth and yarn worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from Faisalabad to Chichawatni when robbers, also on a truck, intercepted him near Lundo. He said they took him and his helper hostage, loaded the cloth and yarn onto their truck and fled with both trucks.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was killed here on Friday over a marriage row.

A man from Chak 330-JB Seowal wed a girl of his choice against the will of her family. Later, the girl’s relatives Ashraf and Riaz allegedly raided the house of Shahnaz Kausar to avenge her brother’s act and killed her.
