KARACHI, Sept 14: Terming Thursday’s incident of firing on a minibus near Karachi University an act of terrorism, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has said that the incident was aimed at destroying the peace of the metropolis and hindering the ongoing development work.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club on Friday night, MQM leaders Haider Abbas Rizvi, Faisal Subzwari and Arshad Shah condemned the Jamaat-i-Islami for implicating the MQM minutes after the tragic incident had occurred just as they had held the MQM responsible for the suicide bombing at Nishtar Park last year.

“It was an act of terrorism and not a targeted killing. However, the JI wanted to politicise this tragic incident by giving an impression that its workers were targeted,” Mr Rizvi said.

He said that several innocent people, including MQM supporters, travelling in the minibus were killed and injured as the terrorists fired indiscriminately.

The MQM leaders recalled that along with the Nishtar Park tragedy, the JI leadership had held the MQM responsible for the killing of Allama Hassan Turabi.

“However, all allegations of the JI leadership proved false when the law-enforcement agencies managed to trace and arrest the perpetrators of the two incidents,” they added.
