KARACHI, Sept 14: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad formally inaugurated the recently renovated Terrace Garden, an amusement park frequently visited by Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah at Old Clifton, on Thursday night. The garden has now been opened to the general public.

The governor announced that the Terrace Garden would soon be declared a national heritage site.

He noted that with the renovation and rehabilitation of the garden, Karachiites had had yet another attractive recreational spot. He said the official name of this spot in the record had not been changed as it was a heritage site.

Shedding light on the history of the place, he recalled that the Quaid-i-Azam, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and other leaders of the Pakistan Movement had frequented this garden for recreation purposes. He said that the park, like the lands of Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim and Beach Park, had remained in the illegal occupation of various mafias.

The governor had asked the authorities concerned to lay a garden at the site of the Terrace Garden through outsourcing. Accordingly, the Garden Leisure Corporation (GLC) got the plan executed.

Dr Ibad said the garden’s location was unique as a church existed in front of it, a mosque on its one side and a posh area on its other side.—PPI
