KARACHI, Sept 13: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Thursday imposed a ban under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on the operation of two-stroke auto-rickshaws on the 15.2km Sharae Pakistan (Sohrab Goth to Mereweather Tower) and the 6km M.A. Jinnah Road (Gurumandir to Tower).

The city government has been notified that the ban will come into effect from Sept 14 and will remain in place till further orders.

The curb has been imposed in view of the Supreme Court’s 2003 suo motu notice in a case regarding increasing environmental pollution, and the Sindh High Court’s three-year-old CP No.D-173/2004 against the provincial government and others.—PPI
