Musharraf’s speech likely next week

ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: President Gen Pervez Musharraf is likely to address the nation next week. Sources said the president might say something in the speech about the ongoing dialogue with PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

The address is expected to follow the next hearing of the constitutional petition in the Supreme Court challenging his dual offices on or after September 17.

Gen Musharraf, the sources said, might announce some drastic steps with far-political consequences. He would also announce steps for his re-election by the current assemblies.

The president was said to be extremely disturbed by the judicial and political challenges emerging in the wake of the deportation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s second exile.
