KARACHI, Sept 10: The Sindh government has agreed in principle to constitute an honorary management board at every government hospital.
This was stated by provincial Health Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed while speaking at a meeting of the officials of the National Programme for Family Planning and Primary Care here on Monday. He said these committees would comprise reputable members of civil society.
“The idea is to deliver to the masses best health care facilities,” the minister said, adding that members of the boards would be those who were committed to the cause of public service, competent and honest to ensure proper and transparent application of funds provided to these hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, Coordinator of the programme Dr Asad Hafeez gave a detailed briefing to the minister about the working of the hospitals, and said that all districts across the country would be linked through computers in the next six months.
He said training would be imparted to all the personnel concerned with specific reference to data compilation and application of the collected information that could help address the issues pertaining to family planning and primary care.
“The masses would be sensitised about these issues in a most efficient manner,” Dr Asad Hafeez said. In this context, he made mention of polio vaccination and the efforts to supplement the ongoing anti-polio campaigns, provision of the medicines required for hepatitis treatment and the necessary medical support, and measures to create awareness of HIV/Aids.
Dr Asad said that third party evaluation of the efforts being made under this programme was also under way, adding that this would help run the scheme effectively and efficiently.
Hospital for workers
Sindh Minister for Labour and Industries Mohammed Adil Siddiqi has said that a plan for the establishment of a 250-bed well-equipped hospital for workers in North Karachi is under consideration.
Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the promotion of 48 grade-17 doctors serving with the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (Sessi) to their next grade, the minister also announced that the Sessi hospital, Landhi, would be provided with modern facilities like those available at the Kulsoombai Valika Hospital.
Congratulating the promoted doctors, the minister expressed the hope that they would continue to render their selfless service to humanity as a mission and discharge their professional responsibilities efficiently.
He pointed out that the Valika hospital was the biggest hospital in the province providing medical services to workers. “It has modern equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases but it is my desire that a burns ward also be set up in this hospital,” he said.
Mr Siddiqi said all Sessi health care centres had already been upgraded and it was now for the doctors to demonstrate their best performance and deliver excellent service to workers using modern equipment and facilities.—APP
