MUZAFFARABAD, Sept 8: The King Abdullah University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be built in Chattar Klas -- the site proposed for the earthquake-hit region’s highest seat of learning pledged by the Saudi government.This was announced by Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) deputy chairman Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmed at a briefing given by AJK University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Z.U. Khan.The Erra deputy chief said the reconstruction would be undertaken in accordance with the international safety standards. He said Chattar Klas, located some 22km south of Muzaffarabad, was the most suitable place for the university.The university project will cost $50 million.

Spokesman for the AJKU Zafar Iqbal said that Erra deputy chief had also assured the

vice-chancellor of release of funds for the maintenance of AJK University’s damaged buildings.

Lt-Gen Nadeem visited different departments and sections of the university’s prefab building on the city campus built by the Turkish government at a cost of $3.5 million.
