PESHAWAR, Oct 21: Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam has decided to hold protest demonstrations on every Friday and Sunday in the province to condemn the US air strikes on Afghanistan.

This was decided in the executive council meeting of the party which met at Darul Uloom Sarhad here on Sunday with provincial chief Maulana Amanullah in the chair.

The executive council strongly condemned the US bombardment on civilians in Afghanistan which resulted in the killing of innocent people including children and women.

The council expressed solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and assured all out support to the ruling Taliban. The meeting decided that the party would regularly organise rallies and demonstrations in all districts on every Friday and in Peshawar on Sunday.

In this connection the party will stage protest demonstration in Masjid Qasim Ali Khan Peshawar on Oct 28.

The meeting directed all district organisers to set up relief camps for Afghans.

LINEMAN DIES: A lineman of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) died when he fell down from a wall at Mohalla Minhajuddin, Nothia, here on Sunday.

The deceased, Mohammad Ali, 38, had disconnected power supply from the 200KVA transformer after he received a complaint about a fault in the locality. He climbed a wall along with another man, Irfan Mahmood, when he slipped down and as a result both of them fell on the ground.

According to a Pesco statement, Ali received serious head injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding. They were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital. Pesco officials rushed to the hospital after receiving the news of the incident.
