KARACHI, Sept 8: The additional district and sessions judge-4, West, Gulshan Ara Chandio, on Saturday acquitted Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi leader Afaq Ahmed Khan in a murder case registered against him on Feb 3, 1994.

After hearing the final arguments on Sept 7, the court had reserved its judgment for pronouncement.

The case, in which 38 persons were nominated, was registered by an SHO, sub-inspector Khalid Taqi, at the Liaquatabad police station under FIR No 50/94.

According to the prosecution, on Ahmed’s appeal a procession led by former MPA Asif Ali, former councillor Abid Ali, Farhat Papu and Amjad Ali Khan alias Sardar Khan was taken out in Liaquatabad on Feb 3, 1994.

During the demonstration against the creation of district Malir, some of the armed protestors opened fire on the police. Constables Sajid Saleem and Mohammed Nawaz sustained bullet injuries and were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the latter succumbed to his injuries.
