PCB furious over Shoaib outburst

Published September 8, 2007

LAHORE, Sept 7: Maverick pacer Shoaib Akhtar, already in a soup for attacking fellow pacer Mohammad Asif in a nets session in Johannesburg, is set to face more music for his outburst against a PCB doping panel.

Shoaib, who was sent home from South Africa on Friday after his new-ball partner Asif lodged a complaint to manager Talat Ali Malik for a physical assault from the controversial bowler, also criticised the PCB’s anti-doping committee in a press statement on Thursday for suspending him for two years last October.

The PCB, taking note of Shoaib’s irresponsible outburst against the doping panel, issued a statement on Friday stating: “The PCB has taken notice of Shoaib Akhtar’s recent statement to the press regarding the board’s doping committee in which he blamed the doping committee for last year’s doping scandal.

“This will also be referred to the disciplinary committee for action under the players code of conduct as contained in the players contract. PCB is committed to zero tolerance policy regarding indiscipline.”
