ISLAMABAD, Sept 7: Indians continued to show their best against their opponents, winning 19 gold medals to remain on top at the inaugural South Asian swimming and water polo championship on Friday.

India seized the first place with 19 gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals while Sri Lanka took the second spot with two gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals. Hosts Pakistan are third with four silver and eight bronze medals.

In 400m IM open category, India’s Agnishwar Jayaparkash won the gold after completing distance in 4min 48sec. Aditya Sangverkar from India took silver while Adil Baig of Pakistan claimed bronze.

In the 200m IM age group, India’s Gopinath Kayal won the gold clocking 2min 26.83sec, Rajitha Pathum of India got second position and Swarup Mondal also from India finished third.

In the 100m breaststroke open category, Agnishwar Jayaparkash from India grabbed gold, clocking 1min 7.73sec, Abdul Aziz from Pakistan took silver while M. A. Chanaka from Sri Lanka won the bronze.
