Asim, Atta capture doubles TT title

KARACHI, Sept 4: Asim Aziz teaming up with Atta Abbas captured the men’s doubles title in the inaugural Dr. Essa Mohammad Karachi ranking table tennis tournament at the PSB National Coaching Centre on Tuesday.

The eventual champions dropped second set on way to registering 11-6, 10-12, 11-9, 11-5 win over the pair of Khawaja Kashif/Mohsin Raza.

Asim and Kashif have also propelled in the men’s singles final after chalking up victories over their opponents on the penultimate day.

Asim disposed off Atta Abbas 11-9, 11-7, 3-11, 11-8, 11-4 while Kashif struggled to beat Mohsin Raza 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7.

Ghalia Khurshid and Noureen Tehsin are set to meet each other in the women’s singles final after they romped home in pre-finals.

The former accounted for Shahida Yousuf 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7 while the latter prevailed 11-5, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 over Urooj Nizam.

The finals will be played on Wednesday.

Men’s singles semi-finals: Asim Aziz bt Atta Abbas 11-9, 11-7, 3-11, 11-8, 11-4; Khawaja Kashif bt Mohsin Raza 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7.

Women’s singles semi-finals: Ghalia Khurshid bt Shahida Yousuf 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7; Noureen Tehsin bt Urooj Nizam 11-5, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5.

Men’s doubles final: Azim Aziz/Atta Abbas bt Khawaja Kashif/Mohsin Raza 11-6, 10-12, 11-9, 11-5.
