DHAKA, Sept 4: A Bangladesh court on Tuesday sent two senior academics to jail after they were detained following student unrest last month, police said.
Harun ur Rashid and Anwar Hossain of Dhaka University were arrested in police raids over their role in student unrest that prompted the army-backed government to impose a curfew in six main cities.
“A court has sent both of them to jail pending further police investigation” into their roles during the protests, deputy commissioner of police Shahidul Haq Bhuiyan said.
The violent protests, sparked by a clash between police and students, took place in defiance of a ban on all demonstrations.—AFP
