Base price of LPG up by Rs557 per ton

ISLAMABAD, Sept 3: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has increased the base price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by about Rs557 per ton (1.6pc) with immediate effect.

According to a notification issued on Monday, the Ogra has fixed LPG base price at Rs36,061 per ton, up from Rs35,504 per ton.

With this raise, LPG prices have gone up by 21 per cent since Jan 3, 2007, when it stood at Rs29,784 per ton.

In its notification, the regulator said the price of butane according to Saudi Aramco Contract Price has surged by 1.68 per cent to Rs605 from Rs595 per ton in the month August while the price of propane has increased by 0.87pc to Rs580 per ton from Rs575 per ton.

LPG is made up of propane and butane with a 40:60 ratio.

The LPG distributors, meanwhile, have said as a result of revised LPG base prices, the retail prices have gone up by Rs2.50 per kg or Rs30 per 11.8 kg residential cylinder.
