Bomb blast in Wana kills two

WANA, Sept 2: Two people were killed and 11 others, including a tribal elder, injured when a remote-controlled bomb exploded in a shop here on Sunday.

Sources said that Meta Khan Wazir, a close associate of pro-government militant commander Maulvi Nazir, was the main target and suffered fatal injuries. He was shifted to Peshawar in a military helicopter, a source said.

Witnesses said that a crate of fruit left in the medical store by someone exploded when Meta Khan entered the shop.

Maulvi Nazir, who had launched an armed campaign against foreign militants in the Ahmadzai Wazir-dominated areas of South Waziristan, had a narrow escape when a man with explosives strapped to his body tried to attack him about a month ago. The man, who is from Bajaur Agency, is in the custody of commander Nazir.

SOLDIER WOUNDED: A soldier was wounded when militants fired rockets on the paramilitary headquarters in Miramshah, North Waziristan Agency, on Saturday night.

They said that one rocket landed inside the camp, wounding the soldier. Security forces retaliated and pounded suspected militant locations in the area.

The electricity supply was disrupted in Miramshah when a shell hit the main power line.
