Hackett leads team to world mark

MELBOURNE, Sept 1: World champion Grant Hackett and a team of relative newcomers combined to strip nearly four seconds from the world 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay record at the Australian short course swimming championships.

Hackett teamed with Kirk Palmer, former backstroker Grant Brits and anchor Kenrick Monk on Friday night to swim 6min 52.66sec, beating the world mark of 6min 56.41sec he has shared since 2001 with Ian Thorpe, Michael Klim and Bill Kirby.—AP
