Lawyers stage sit-in

Published September 2, 2007

LAHORE, Sept 1: In what could be dubbed as a prelude to the second phase of lawyers’ movement, due to be initiated from Sept 3 (tomorrow), when their representatives will court arrests, the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) staged a sit-in outside Aiwan-i-Adl at the Postmaster General Chowk on Saturday.

The lawyers chanted slogans against Gen Pervez Musharraf and resolved to oppose political forces intending to enter into a deal with him.

Earlier, a general house meeting of the LBA decided to stage weekly rallies on The Mall till the ouster of Musharraf.

Bar president Syed Muhammad Shah urged the lawyers to ignore their political affiliations and prepare themselves for waging a major movement against any force which would negotiate with Gen Musharraf for power.

Besides the president, senior advocate Abdul Latif Hanjra and bar secretary Khawar Bashir addressed the members.
