KARACHI, Aug 31: Complaints of contaminated water supply continued to pour in from different parts of the city in newspaper offices on Friday.

Residents of different parts of Lyari, Ranchorre Lane and Haquani Chowk have complained about an objectionable taste or smell in the water being supplied to their localities.People residing on Lyari’s D D Chaudhry Road and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road said that their streets were inundated with sewage gushing out of choked sewers that might be seeping into water lines. The most affected buildings included Bhutto House, Baitul Hashim, Zeeshan Arcade, Haji Saleh building, Yaqub Sunara building, Irshad Manzil, Naz Chambers, Haji Gul Hassan House and some areas in close vicinity of Lyari Telephone Exchange and Bismillah Colony.

They said that despite repeated complaints no action had so far been taken in this regard. Similarly, residents of Nishtar Basti regretted that although supply of contaminated water had become a recurring issue, the KWSB officials concerned had not taken any step to rectify the fault responsible for the contamination of water.

Residents of the affected localities have urged the KWSB authorities to take steps on an emergency basis to improve the quality of water before a possible outbreak of waterborne diseases.
