BANNU, Aug 30: Police on Thursday seized 10 bags of explosives from a passenger coach on a Bannu link road and arrested the driver.

An official said that a police party signalled the driver to stop, but he ignored the signal and tried to speed away, he said, adding that the police party chased the vehicle and forced the driver to stop.

The driver told the police that one man named Zabit Khan had booked the vehicle for Peshawar and told him that the bags contained wheat.

SEVEN ARRESTED: Police on Thursday arrested seven people and seized a large quantity of illegal weapons during a raid on an arms bazaar in Kohat.

The police sealed two shops and arrested Waheedullah, Faizullah, Khalid Mahmood, Tariq Mahmood, Fain Shah, Dildar Hussain and Ijaz.

ASP Athar Waheed told newsmen that some arms dealers had brought smuggled weapons from Darra Adam Khel and got registration numbers for them from local manufacturers. He said some of them were involved in keeping arms more than their quota, issuing fake licences and smuggling weapons.

The Kohat Arms Dealers Association has announced a strike for Friday to protest the arrests.
