QUETTA, Aug 29: An Iranian smuggler was killed in an encounter with Frontier Corps personnel in the Mashkal area on Wednesday. Officials said the FC personnel tried to intercept some suspects in the area along the Iranian border, but instead of stopping they started firing.

The paramilitary forces returned fire and killed one of the smugglers, Abdul Karim, while his accomplices succeeded in crossing into Iran.

Meanwhile, Kharan Rifles, a wing of the Frontier Corps, seized 1,900kg of opium, a rocket-launcher and fuses, six rockets, a machine-gun and hundreds of rounds after an exchange of heavy firing with smugglers in the Nokundi area of Chagai district.
