ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: Improved grounds and other infrastructure facilities will be provided for the promotion of cricket in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi Region.

According to former Pakistan cricketer and PCB’s newly-appointed Regional General Manager (RGM), Rawalpindi-Islamabad Region Khatib Rizwan, these facilities are for the promotion of cricket at the grassroots level, not only in Rawalpindi-Islamabad but also in the districts surrounding them, including Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, AJK, Gujrat and the Northern Areas.

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said: “It will be my top priority to develop and improve the infrastructure in the districts of both regions.”

The president of the Islamabad Cricket Association Shakil Shaikh called for close cooperation between regional bodies and the RGM for the promotion of the sport in the respective regions.

Naeem Akhter Gilani, president of the Rawalpindi Regional Cricket Association, said that the regional body would also be allowed to use the facility of the Railway Stadium in addition to the other cricket grounds and stadiums in the area.—APP
