KARACHI, Aug 28: The additional district and sessions judge-II, South, Mohammed Azim, on Tuesday rejected the contempt application submitted by civil rights campaigner Mohammed Iqbal Kazmi against the SHO of the Defence police station and directed him to register a case according to the statement of the complainant Shazia, alias Sadia Kazmi, wife of Iqbal Kazmi.

After hearing both parties’ arguments, the court said that the contempt application was not maintainable and was rejected.

On August 9, Mr Kazmi submitted an application to the court of district and sessions judge, South, Zaheeruddin S. Leghari, under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code. It stated that on August 1, his wife and her cousin Mohammed Imran Shehzad had been en route the Sindh High Court in a rickshaw when they were kidnapped by unidentified persons from a road near the Defence Central Library on Sunset Boulevard. After being blindfolded and injured with a sharp-edged weapon, they were dropped near Sea View.

Mr Kazmi blamed the kidnapping on the Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Home Affairs, Waseem Akhtar, DSP Zahid Hussain Shah, Sub-inspector Munir Ahmed Chandio and Hanif Memon.

“Despite repeated visits to the police station, the officials refused to register a case against the nominated persons,” Mr Kazmi stated.
