Test stars beef up PIA

Published March 14, 2002

KARACHI, March 13: PIA, already possessing the services of Wasim Akram, Moin Khan, Saqlain Mushtaq and Azhar Mahmood, are further strengthened by the return of Abdul Razzaq, Yousuf Youhana, Faisal Iqbal and Shoaib Malik for their fourth round match in the National One-day Cricket Championship Thursday.

Razzaq, Youhana, Shoaib and Faisal were unavailable for PIA’s three games because of their involvement in the Asian Test Championship final against Sri Lanka at Lahore.

With the availability of the quartet, the likes of Shoaib Mohammad, Saleem Jaffar, Fazle Akbar and Asif Mujtaba will find themselves on the sidelines for the match against Karachi Whites at National Stadium.

Another team to benefit are Habib Bank. Their current Test players Shahid Afridi, Taufiq Umer are certain to play against Faisalabad in the Pool ‘C’ fixture at Faisalabad. But there is grave doubts about star batsman Younis Khan’s availability because of a bereavement in his family on Sunday.
