SAHIWAL, Aug 27: On the orders of the Supreme Court, the SP (investigation) on Monday arrested the three accused in the murder case of a BA girl student one year after the incident at Chak 183/9-L.

The arrested have been identified as Zulfiqar, his lover Khalida and Muhammad Pervez, a cousin of Khalida.

According to the police report, Pervez fell in love with victim Abida Riaz, a class fellow of Khalida. On Aug 26, 2006, he invited Abida for a dinner at a local hotel where Zulfiqar and Khalida were also present. Later, Pervez offered a lift to Abida on his motorcycle to drop her at her home. On the way, the girl raised an alarm when he tried to molest her. Pervez shot her dead, removed her earrings, a gold chain, cell phone and books and threw the body in Lower Bari Doab Canal.

On the report of the victim’s father Riaz Ahmed, the Dera Rahim police registered a case under Hudood Ordinance. Later, the police alleged that Riaz Ahmed and his wife Nasreen killed their daughter and arrested them. Nasreen wrote a letter to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry who summoned the Sahiwal DPO and ordered recovery of the girl.

On Monday, SP (investigation) Dr Rizwan arrested the three accused and recovered valuables of the victim girl. A case has been registered under Section 302 of the PPC.
