LAHORE, Aug 27: The worst traffic jams were witnessed on all important city roads after a majority of educational institutions opened after a three-month summer vacation on Monday.

Thousands of vehicles, including school vans, got stuck in the traffic mess especially in the afternoon and long queues of automobiles were seen on Jail Road, Main Boulevard, Ferozepur Road, Barkat Market Road, Wahdat Road and Campus Road and their connecting roads.

An unusual gathering of a large number of candidates, who turned up to undergo physical fitness test at Qadhafi Stadium on Monday for recruitment as police constables also disrupted traffic flow between Kalma Chowk and Canal Bridge on Ferozepur Road and Centre Point and Liberty Chowk on Main Boulevard in Gulberg.

According to police sources, all roads connecting Qadhafi Stadium were deliberately blocked owing to a security threat in the wake of suicide attacks on police centres especially the recruitment centres.
