Governor seeks report on tenders

SAHIWAL, March 13: The Punjab governor has taken a serious note of pooling of tenders at the local tehsil council.

Aggrieved contractors in a fax message to the governor had complained that the tehsil council floated 33 construction projects of Rs6.6 million. He said the favourite contractors in connivance with the tehsil municipal officer and engineer pooled the tenders rendering colossal loss to the municipality.

Taking a serious notice, the governor sought a report from the district coordination officer after an inquiry.

INQUIRY ORDERED: A probe has been ordered into the alleged conversion of 30 kanals of land earmarked for a school, a park and a graveyard into residential plots.

Maqbool Siddiqui had lodged a complaint with the Punjab chief secretary that tehsil council officers Omar Daraz Gondal, Malik Iqbal, Baoo Hamid, Baoo Qadir, Ghulam Habib and Tariq Chaudhry were involved in this unlawful act.

CONVENTION: The Sahiwal district PML-N will hold a party convention here on March 15.

Punjab president Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, secretary-general Khawaja Saad Rafiq, information secretary Zaeem Qadri and central vice-president Ms Tehmina Daultana will address the convention.

This was disclosed by party district president and former MPA Malik Nadeem Kamran while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.

EDUCATION: The local district government is spending Rs41.676 million on education annually.

This was revealed by Naib Nazim Malik Muhammad Yar Dhakoo while speaking at the parents day of the Crescent Public School here on Wednesday.

He said the district government was working on a proposal to provide land for school buildings to private schools. The step would help raise the literacy rate and the standard, he said.
