Jewellers’ sit-in from today

Published August 27, 2007

LAHORE, Aug 26: Chowk Yateem Khana jewellers have decided to resume their sit-in from Monday (today) to protest against the failure of police to nab culprits of recent robberies at their shops.

A decision to the effect was taken at a meeting of the Lahore Division Sarafa Association held here on Sunday with Rana Muhammad Asghar in the chair.

The participants also decided to close down jewellery markets in the provincial metropolis indefinitely in case the police failed to arrest the robbers.

Association chairman Muhammad Ahmed said the jewellers paid millions of rupees tax to the government every year but were not provided with adequate security. The jewellers of Chowk Yateem Khana had been deprived of their entire earnings but police highups had not bothered to issue show-cause notices to the DSPO and SHO of Nawankot for failure to trace robbers.
