LAHORE, Aug 24: Pakistan’s top tennis star, Aisam-ul-Haq made it into the third and final round of the US Open singles qualifying tournament, overcoming Brazilian player Rogerio Dutra Silva 6-4 6-1 at Flushing Meadows, New York.

In the match where both contenders struggled for points in the first set and came to the brink of breaking each other’s serve, it was to be the seventh game in which Aisam got his break.

The second set, where he led from start to finish and conceded only one game to complete the route, proved to be a cakewalk for Aisam who now faces the 322-ranked American Scoville Jenkins in the final qualifying round.
