Butcher denies joining ICL

LONDON, Aug 23: Former England batsman Mark Butcher denied on Thursday he will play in the Indian Cricket League that has challenged the India cricket board’s authority.

The Surrey captain said: “I have had no contact from anyone involved within the ICL and I don’t expect to either. The first I heard of it was when the chief executive of Surrey [Paul Sheldon] phoned me to ask what it was all about. I am slightly disconcerted to see my name attached to something that I know nothing about.”—AP
