Bank robbers held

GUJRANWALA, Aug 23: The Satellite Town police claimed on Thursday to have busted a gang involved in major robberies.

City Police Officer DIG Khadhim Hussain Bhatti told a news conference that the accused had been arrested from their hideout in Satellite Town on a tip-off. He identified the arrested as Ali Ahmad (ring leader), Navid Ahmad alias Sohana and Amjed Rehmani.

He said the accused had looted Rs 3.3 million from Muslim Commercial Bank’s Khiali branch a few months ago and Rs 2.6 million from the cash vans of Small Industries Estate. They had also robed a couple of Rs 600,000 and gold in Model Town.

CPO Khadim Hussain Bhatti announced cash prize of Rs 5,000 each for SHO inspector Imran Abas, investigation inspector Syed Israr Hussain Shah, assistant sub-inspector Ashiq Ali Virk and police constables beside commendation certificates for additional SP Afzal Mahmood Butt.

Inspector General of Police Ahmad Nasim also announced cash prize of Rs 200,000 for those four citizens who played an active role in helping police arrest culprits.

WARING: Regional police officer DIG Saud Aziz has warned all SHOs and officers of Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauuddin to control crime in their jurisdiction.

Speaking at a regional crime meeting in his office here on Thursday, he said that all police officers should work jointly like a team. He suggested that arrest of proclaimed offenders and accused involved in kidnap for ransom cases should be the priority of the police officers. The district police officers, DSPs and SHOs of five districts attended the meeting.
