BANNU/MIRAMSHAH, Aug 22: Local Taliban militants killed four paramilitary soldiers in two rocket attacks on a checkpoint and an army camp in the volatile tribal zone, officials and witnesses said.

Authorities claimed to have killed three assailants in counter-attack, while a woman hit by a stray bullet inside her house in the Ghora Bakakhel village also died.

Officials said that the militants had taken away bodies of their accomplices.

They said the checkpoint, jointly manned by police and the FC personnel, was attacked with rockets from four sides in early hours of Wednesday, which left three soldiers dead.

(Six paramilitary soldiers were wounded in a rocket attack in the tribal town of Tiarza in South Waziristan near the Afghan border, chief military spokesman Major-General Waheed Arshad told AFP.

“One soldier later died of injuries in a hospital,” the general said.)

The deceased were identified as Baidar Bakht, of Alizai, Kohat, Havaldar Said Amin and Lance Naik Ishaq Ali, both of Hangu district.
