SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 21: A large numbers of residents of Wagre village and adjoining areas blocked the Lahore-Jaranwala Road to protest suspension of electricity for the last 20 hours on Tuesday and later surrounded the Wapda’s Faizpur subdivision office. The SDO fled from his office.
The residents were protesting the indifference of Wapda officials in restoring power supply to their village. They said that two transformers regulating power supply to their area had been burnt but the SDO had not ordered their replacement. They accused the SDO and his staff of demanding bribe to replace the transformers. When contacted, the SDO said they would replace the transformers soon.
SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead while four others were injured allegedly over enmity in village Bhoblianwala in Sadar police precincts on Tuesday.
Shahid Maqbool, 25, his relatives Irfan, Sajjad and two others were present in their fields when their rivals Sohail, Naved, Javed and another equipped with automatic weapons came and shot at them.
Maqbool died instantly while Irfan, Sajjad and the other two received bullet injuries. The injured were taken to the district headquarters hospital. Maqbool’s body was given to his family after the autopsy. The Sadar police have started investigations.
CORRUPTION: The district coordinator officer (DCO) has ordered registration of a corruption case against a Buildings Department contractor.
Imran had been given contract to construct rooms in Government High School, Bullerke. The contractor did not carry out the construction according to specifications and used substandard material.
Residents of the area lodged a complaint with DCO Muzaffar Mehmud who ordered an inquiry, which found the contractor guilty.
When contacted, Imran said his work had been duly examined and approved by the officials concerned.
