ISLAMABAD, Aug 16: German coach Monika Staab hopes to be able to raise the standard of women’s football in Pakistan. She expressed her objective while watching the opening match of the third National Women’s football championship at the Jinnah Sports Complex on Thursday.

Monika said that she would select 30 soccer players from the ongoing championship and then train them.

“I have long-term plans in sight for women's football in Pakistan,” the German coach who is in Pakistan to train women footballers said.

She expressed hope that the Pakistan team would be able to compete with weaker Asian teams like Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bahrain in a year or so.

Monika said the women players showed glimpses of talent and her ultimate aim was to get the Pakistani team among the top 100 of the world.—APP
