Tail-end growers demand water

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Aug 15: Hundreds of growers from Padidan Kalhora, Ghair Gajo and other areas staged sit-in outside the district nazim office here on Wednesday to protest against shortage of water in Chaheen minor canal.

The rally was led by Riaz Ahmed Abbasi, Ali Akbar Jatt, Mohammad Juman Mari and Haq Nawaz Jatt.

They raised slogans against SDO Irrigation Padidan. They complained that tail-end growers of Chaheen minor were deprived of water causing damages to their crops. They accused the irrigation officials of selling water to big landlords and also allowing them to install pump machines.

They said that despite their several protests, no action was taken against these officials.

District Nazim Ghulam Rasool Jatoi held talks with the protesters and asked the Executive Engineer of Nusrat Division, Nawabshah on telephone to solve problems of the growers.

Later, the protesters reached the local press club and staged demonstration complaining about shortage of water and threatened to block the road if illegal pumping machines were not removed.

DEMO: The growers of Bhirya town staged demonstration against the proposed closing of Scarp division of Naushahro Feroze, on Wednesday.

They were led by Nadir Khan Jalbani, Faiz Mohammad Mallah, Muzaffar Ali Kalhoro and Haji Abdul Hadi Jalbani.

They complained that there was shortage of water and in these circumstances closure of Scarp division in Naushahro Feroze was unjustified. They said that due to closing of Scarp division, about 800 government tube-wells would be removed affecting thousands of acres of agricultural land.

WOMAN DIES: An elderly woman admitted in the Civil Hospital for couple of days died on Wednesday. Her body was lying unclaimed in the hospital till the filling of this report.
