GHALANAI, Aug 14: A man and his four minor daughters were killed, while three other members of their family were injured when their house collapsed following torrential rain and flash floods in Yakka Ghund here on Monday and Tuesday, officials said.

They said a severe storm and heavy rain also damaged other houses in the area and uprooted trees and electricity poles.

Witnesses said the five-room house of Shahid Gul collapsed when a hill torrent struck it, burying all the eight family members. Local people rushed to the spot and started clearing the debris. Officials of the political administration also reached the area and participated in rescue work.

They pulled out two women and a man alive, and later retrieved five bodies from the debris. The deceased included Shahid Gul and his daughters Samia (9), Swera (6), Karishma (4), and Suhani (2). The injured were identified as Shahid’s wife, father Hazrat Gul and the mother.

People said that the hill torrent also damaged several other houses in the Yakka Ghund area. The boundary walls of many houses and government buildings also collapsed in the severe windstorm. Electricity poles in the area were also uprooted.
