KARACHI, Aug 14: The DHA has taken emergency measures to speed up the de-watering operation in its affected areas.

The authority said on Tuesday that a storm-water drainage operation has been launched to provide relief to the people, especially in the areas of DHA Phase-V, VI and VII.

The rain-affected areas include Khayaban-i-Rahat, Khayaban-i-Sehar, Khayaban-i-Nishat, Khayaban-i-Hilal, Khayaban-i-Shamsheer, Khayaban-i-Mujahid, Saba Avenue and their adjoining streets and localities.

Meanwhile the city government, NLC, PNSC and Malir Cantt have given their de-watering equipment to the DHA to clear the stagnant rainwater from the affected areas.

City Nazim Mustafa Kamal also visited the affected areas late on Monday night and assured the DHA of the city government’s all-out help to speed up the de-watering operation.

The representatives of other organisations also visited the area to assess the requirement of resources needed to speed up the operation.

The DHA administrator expressed his profound thanks to these organisations for providing timely help.

The sewerage and drainage system in the DHA could not take the amount of rainwater, which resulted in the flooding of various localities.

Other emergency measures taken by the DHA for speedy drainage of accumulated rainwater include restoration of collapsed sewerage lines, activation of damaged pumps and making emergency storm-water drains.

Meanwhile, the DHA has closed Beach Avenue on Seaview beach between McDonalds (Khayaban-i-Shamsheer-Beach Avenue junction) and Village Restaurant (Khayaban-i-Ittehad-Beach Avenue junction) for general traffic to drain out rainwater into the sea.—APP
