KARACHI, Aug 14: Independence Day was celebrated with traditional fervour and zeal in all towns of the city on Tuesday.

In Saddar Town, the national flag was hoisted at the main office by Naib Nazim Nasir Taumuri. After the national anthem, special prayers were offered for the progress of the country.

Schoolchildren sang national songs and presented tableau at the ceremony attended by a large number of people and town staff.

The town administration decorated streets with flags and banners and illuminated buildings to mark the day.

Korangi

The town administration of Korangi held the Independence Day ceremony at its main office where the national flag was hoisted by Town Nazim Mohammad Arif Khan Advocate. The ceremony was also attended by town staff, students, teachers and citizens. The town nazim said “We must forge unity, faith, discipline to become a progressive nation. We must never forget the sacrifices given by forefathers for the country’s independence,” he said.

Town Naib Nazim Muhammad Asghar Qureshi also spoke. Later, fateha was also offered for those who died in the recent rains.

Gulshan-i-Iqbal

Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Nazim Mohammad Wasey Jalil hoisted the national flag at the town office in the presence of Naib Nazim Shoaib Akhtar, TMO Shafiqur Rehman, TO Mubeen Siddiqui, TO Ureesul Hassan Zaidi, Mohib Fatmi and Hamid Hussain besides the town officials and staff.—PPI
